As the 2020 presidential election nears, the fundamental transformation of the country that Barack Obama promised us is now happening at breakneck speed. There are no longer such things as “gradualism” or the proverbial “death by a thousand cuts”. We are witnessing it in real time.
In the aftermath of the George Floyd case, there are now at least 20 states seriously considering giving into the demands of groups like Black Lives Matter to defund their police departments. As I write, Congress is having hearings on this issue even as President Trump affirms the defunding of police will never happen on his watch. The White House is also working on a police reform plan which we expect at any time. Meanwhile, the House has already passed legislation which would make lynching a federal crime and the bill is awaiting approval in the Senate. The word “lynching” has rarely been heard in the past thirty years, ever since Clarence Thomas referred to his treatment at his Supreme Court confirmation hearings as “a high-tech lynching.” Yet, here’s the word again……just a few years after Americans elected and reelected their first black president, something not possible without overwhelming white support.
Yesterday, the world watched as a memorial service was held for George Floyd, a service that was not unlike a state funeral, the difference being that Floyd did not lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. Civil rights “icon” and professional race-hustler, Al Sharpton officiated. Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee, Joe Biden, who was originally scheduled to attend, was excluded from the event after Sharpton spoke with the Floyd family’s attorney. The Reverend didn’t want the event to be political. That’s rich, even for Sharpton.
Everything Al Sharpton has done in his public life has been political with one goal in mind….to divide this nation by race simply to justify his very existence. His words and his delivery were boilerplate as he praised George Floyd, a middle-aged man who was high on Fentanyl and methamphetamines, in possession of cocaine and trying to pass off a counterfeit $20 at the time of his arrest. It’s been said numerous times that – for the past five years – Floyd had been cleaning up his life. Really? REALLY? In a taped message, Joe Biden said that too many blacks fear “they will lose their life while in the process of simply living their life.” Was George Floyd simply “living his life” when he was arrested? Is that what the black community believes is simply living one’s life? I’ll never believe that. What Biden seems to have been engaging in is what has been referred to as “the soft bigotry of low expectations.”
Let me state again that regardless of what he did, Floyd’s treatment by the police sickened me and everyone who saw that tape. With that said, can anyone in the black community possibly believe that George Floyd led an exemplary life, the kind of life a mother would want for her son, the kind of life to which every young black man aspires? Even the most cynical among us will never believe that.
You know there’s a major problem in our society when Al Sharpton is asked to eulogize ANYONE, particularly when he eulogizes George Floyd as if he were George Bailey and when every cable TV news network presents wall to wall coverage of the funeral. Of course, we know what would have happened had they not carried Floyd’s service. Meanwhile, the execution-style death of retired – and black – police captain, David Dorn, at the hands of another black man in the course of the rioting goes largely ignored, except to report that the assailant has been caught. Dorn’s funeral will not be carried. Cable news ran it’s regular programming today.
As you consider the life of George Floyd, as you consider what young people are doing to our businesses and cities and as you consider their demands, is it the police who need reforming or is reform needed in America’s homes, something that cannot be fixed by government, by Donald Trump and certainly not by the Al Sharptons of the world.
From the time of slavery until the early 1960s and despite abject poverty, despite systemic racism, the American black family remained intact. Black families were strong and they were deeply connected to their faith. As black author Shelby Steele – who grew up in the 50s – said yesterday, “Back then, we had daddys……and they were good daddys” and stressed the importance of good male role models in the home. For too many years, black boys have had no one to look to but “gangsta rappers” and professional “bad boy” athletes who can’t keep their junk in their pants as examples of what a man should be. How many more generations of young men have to be lost?
In the early 1960s, approximately 75 percent of black children were born into a two-parent home. In 2020, approximately 75 percent of black children are born into a single-parent home. What happened? The Democrats started “helping” the black community. The same southern Democrats (Lyndon Johnson, Al Gore Sr etc) who blocked Dwight Eisenhower and the Republicans’ Civil Rights legislation in the late 1950s were themselves to pass it in 1964. At the time, Johnson was quoted as having said,”I’ll have those n_ _ _ _ _s voting Democratic for 200 years.” Well, it’s been almost 60 years.
With the Civil Rights Act and “The Great Society,” the Democrats established themselves as the Party of the regular Joe and the black community. After six decades and $15 trillion spent on social programs, the black community is complaining about the same problems now, as then. That’s because Democrats never intended to help the black community, only to enslave them, to keep them dependent, to dole out only enough cash to allow them to survive, but not thrive, knowing that – out of their dependence – they’d keep voting Democrat to keep the checks coming.
The Democrat Party, which gave us slavery, the KKK and Jim Crow, has – with the help of the Al Sharptons, the Jesse Jacksons and the media – fanned the flames of hate and racism for decades, convinced several generations of blacks that they are victims, while blaming their plight on Republicans, all for votes and power. They continue to this day. Add to that the fact that far too many black parents instill these same notions into their children’s heads and it’s no wonder the problems in their communities persist all these many years later. I ask again, is it the police who need reforming or should reforms be taking place in the homes of Americans? Donald Trump didn’t get George Floyd high, nor did he place the bags of cocaine in his pockets. Neither did Donald Trump force young people to destroy cities, injure – or kill – nearly 800 police and secret service agents as well as civilians, some of them, black, themselves.
“I am for doing good to the poor, but…I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed…that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.” – Benjamin Franklin
There it is. A self-sufficient, self-reliant black community is Kryptonite to the Democrat Party because blacks (or those of any color) who don’t need their social programs may not necessarily vote for them. As Shelby Steele says, “Whites win their power by deferring to some problem minorities have…they use us as a tool.”
Democrats’ social programs have destroyed the black family and their communities. They incentivized women to have children out of wedlock…..the more children, the more checks. Blacks have been robbed of what my father used to call “gumption,” their motivation to make something of themselves, to do better, to make it on their own, to be successful……and, as a result, they’ve been robbed of their self esteem and the sense of fulfillment that comes from accomplishment.
Democrat policies have been designed not to drive blacks out of poverty, but to keep them in it, dependent, so that they can be easily controlled, their votes counted on. For me, the one policy that always comes to mind first is Affirmative Action. This policy essentially told blacks they’re too stupid or lazy to make it on their own. They were to get preferential treatment when it came to hiring based solely on their skin color, even if a white applicant was more qualified. This is racism in its purest form. Both blacks and whites were treated differently based solely on the color of their skin.
The move to defund police is spreading across the country. This will disproportionately hurt black communities as that is where most crimes take place. I go back to Shelby Steele’s quote, “Whites win their power by deferring to some problem minorities have…they use us as a tool.” When the police are gone and crime gets even worse in these communities, who will residents turn to? The people who granted their wish to get rid of the police, of course. Their power grows.
I have watched in total disbelief as governors and mayors have caved to the lowest common denominator among us, spoiled, mollycoddled children who have grown up during a time where – according to Shelby Steele – they have never been “less oppressed.” Jacob Frey, the baby-faced mayor of Minneapolis was forced to slink away, to walk the walk of shame while being booed away, after he told a crowd of anarchists that he was not in favor of defunding police.
Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats wore African kente cloth as each took a knee for nearly 9 minutes in honor of George Floyd. Meanwhile, the rest of us cannot wear sombreros on Cinco de Mayo because that would be racist, an act of “cultural appropriation.”
The Mayor of Washington DC has renamed a street leading to the White House “Black Lives Matter Plaza” and the huge, yellow letters on the pavement reflect the name change. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is about to rename a major thorofare in each of the city’s five boroughs “Black Lives Matter,” once again, with the huge, painted letters on the pavement. The governor of Kentucky has vowed to give free health insurance to every black person in his state. Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell have caved to the anarchists over the “taking a knee” issue and Al Sharpton insists the NFL give Colin Kaepernick a job.
The 30-year-old television program “Cops” has now been cancelled, Yosemite Sam’s guns have been removed from cartoons, “Gone with the Wind” has been pulled from the HBO Max library, never mind Hattie McDaniel’s Oscar-winning performance, the first Oscar won by a black actor. What next, public book burnings of Tom Sawyer and To Kill a Mockingbird? So deeply disturbing is also to watch police, law-enforcement officials, mayors, governors and other elected leaders march with, kneel before or lie on the ground with various groups who are hell bent on destroying this country and remaking it into a socialist dystopia. I paraphrase Dr. Phil who has said words to the effect, “It takes one person to run a household. God help you if that one person is a child.”
Barack Obama once spoke out about ISIS and said that all Muslims should not be blamed for “the violence of a few”. We are told that stereotyping blacks is racist. Yet, all white people and all cops are being painted with a broad brush because of the evil act of Derek Chauvin. Yesterday, Mike O’Meara, the head of New York City’s police union, offered his impassioned comments to the public, defending himself, his officers and their unstained badges, refusing to be lumped together with Chauvin.
I was incredulous watching a video of a young, white woman who was essentially forced to kneel down before a Black Lives Matter member, to acknowledge her white privilege and to apologize. Yesterday, I listened to a caller on talk radio tell her story of being called into the boss’s office and of being asked why she hadn’t come out in support of Black Lives Matter on her Facebook page. The woman had written nothing on her page about the George Floyd situation, neither positive nor negative……nothing, thinking that was the safest way to go. She was fired for NOT addressing this on Facebook, for NOT supporting BLM.
I don’t know of a single person who wasn’t horrified by what happened to George Floyd and who doesn’t believe Derek Chauvin should get what’s coming to him. Yet, anarchist, America-hating groups like ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter are presenting white Americans with a binary choice, all or nothing. In addition to taking a stance against Derek Chauvin and police brutality, we must also take a stance in favor of riots, the destruction and theft of personal property, the taking of lives and offer our full support to Black Lives Matter, or, we are racists. You must support George Floyd AND Black Lives Matter or they will destroy you.
I don’t know how this is going to end. What I do know is that everything we’ve seen from the COVID shutdowns to the burning of cities is purely political with one goal in mind…..to destroy Donald Trump. To that end, I will make a prediction:
Keith Ellison is the Attorney General of Minnesota. He is an Obama-ite. Ellison’s son serves on the Minneapolis City Council and has vowed to get rid of the police department. These are two very radical men, cut from the same Obama/Alinsky cloth. I believe that the elder Ellison overcharged Derek Chauvin, knowing that he’ll never get a conviction. And, if Chauvin gets off, so too will the other three cops.
If you think cities are burning now, that the demands are ridiculous now, imagine what will happen if my prediction comes to pass. Not only will police, mayors and governors be kneeling before these thugs, they’ll be bending over. And we’ll lose our country forever.
