On March 4, 2017 President Trump wrote a series of tweets which accused Barack Obama of spying on his campaign and called for a congressional investigation. He was widely mocked on cable news and his assertions dismissed as conspiracy theories. So, what else is new?
Barack Obama claimed to have learned about investigations of Trump-Russia collusion “through news reports” at the same time the rest of us did and didn’t even want to discuss it. Obama was often wont to use this plausible-deniability tactic whenever a trail of breadcrumbs of something untoward led back to either his administration or to his own desk.
We know for a fact that just a few days before he left office, Obama finalized new rules that allowed the National Security Agency (NSA) to share information it gleans from its vast international surveillance apparatus with the 16 other agencies that make up the U.S. intelligence community, including the FBI, headed at that time by James Comey. These changes allowed the various agencies to apply for access to various feeds of raw, undoctored NSA intelligence and allowed their analysts to comb through the contents as they saw fit. The new rules multiplied the number of intelligence analysts who would have access to NSA surveillance, which is voluminous and often does not require warrants.
Not only did these changes themselves raise questions, but so too their timing, again, just days before Obama left office and days before a man he detested, Donald Trump, was about to assume office. We also know that Obama “had no time” for General Flynn and advised Trump to get rid of him. At the time, many asked why these changes and why now? Even the New York Times, hardly a conservative news outlet, was asking questions.
What did Obama know and when did he know it?
Reams of documents released this week not only led to the exoneration of former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, but they exposed the lies and corruption in the highest echelons of our government, most-notably the FBI, the Obama White House and Obama himself.
One of those documents was a partially unclassified email sent by President Obama’s former National Security Advisor (NSA) Susan Rice to herself on January 20, 2017 – President Trump’s inauguration day. Conservative radio and TV host Mark Levin calls this email “Obama’s Blue Dress,” a reference to the Bill Clinton DNA-stained dress of Monica Lewinsky.
Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) discovered the email in which Ms. Rice appears to have used this email to document a January 5, 2017 Oval Office meeting between Barack Obama, Joe Biden, former FBI Director James Comey, Ambassador Rice and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates regarding Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential election.
One passage Rice wrote is very interesting:
“President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘by the book’. The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book.”
Take note of that first sentence where Susan Rice references Obama’s “continued commitment to the issue.” As I mentioned earlier, Obama has claimed he knew nothing about the investigation into Trump and found out about it at the same time and in the same way the rest of us did…..through news reports. If that’s true, how could Obama have a “continued commitment” to something he knew nothing about? The answer is, he couldn’t. Therefore, he lied about not knowing about the investigation. It is impossible to think that he could not have known about the investigation into Donald Trump.
Further proof that Obama knew about the investigation is found in one of the texts between FBI agent Peter Strzok and his lover, FBI lawyer Lisa Page. In a Sept. 2, 2016, text exchange, Lisa Page writes that she was preparing talking points because “POTUS wants to know everything we’re doing.”
Sens. Grassley and Graham were also struck by the context and timing of Susan Rice’s email, and sent a follow up letter to her. The letter reads in part:
“It strikes us as odd that, among your activities in the final moments on the final day of the Obama administration, you would feel the need to send yourself such an unusual email purporting to document a conversation involving President Obama and his interactions with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia investigation. In addition, despite your claim that President Obama repeatedly told Mr. Comey to proceed ‘by the book,’ substantial questions have arisen about whether officials at the FBI, as well as at the Justice Department and the State Department, actually did proceed ‘by the book.’”
Odd, indeed. The newly-released documents further reveal that President Obama was aware of the details of then-incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn’s intercepted December 2016 phone calls with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak…….and that his unexpectedly intimate knowledge of the details of those calls – which the FBI said at the time were not criminal nor improper – surprised then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates during that January 5 Oval Office meeting.
Documents show that Ms. Yates had no idea what the president was talking about, but figured it out based on the conversation. It was also not clear to Yates where Obama first received the information and she was having a hard time processing it and listening to the conversation at the same time.
There is no doubt that Obama knew of the spying on the Trump campaign, Trump transition team and Trump presidency. This writer also has no doubt that Barack Obama initiated it. As I write, the newly-released documents are still being poured over. President Trump was right about being spied on and about who was doing the spying. Trump promises even more damning information is coming, far more damning than what has already come to light.
You’ll recall those secret, Star Chamber Russian Collusion hearings Adam Schiff held in the basement of the US Capitol, hearings with no cameras and no questions from Republicans. This week’s released documents show that every one of the 53 who were interviewed said there was no evidence of collusion. These documents also revealed that top Obama officials, including James Clapper, Loretta Lynch, Ben Rhodes, Susan Power, Susan Rice, Andrew McCabe, et al, testified either that there was no collusion or that they had seen no evidence of same.
Former DNI Clapper, in particular, testified: “I never saw any direct empirical evidence that the Trump campaign or someone in it was plotting/conspiring with the Russians to meddle with the election.” Yet, Clapper lived to go on CNN and say the exact opposite. Unmoved by facts, Adam Schiff continues to insist that empirical evidence that President Trump colluded with Russia and that the evidence is right in front of our faces. This writer wants to see the smug look on his bug-eyed face wiped right off, as well as off the face of his equally smug water boy, Eric Swalwell.
President Trump, his family and the country have been put through the wringer over the past 3-1/2 years. The level of corruption is beyond what any of us could have imagined. Even Hollywood and James Patterson couldn’t come up with this stuff.
Millions of Americans will not be satisfied with anything less than Washington DC being turned into a veritable bowling alley with some big heads rolling, first and foremost former FBI director James Comey. Americans need to be able to trust the FBI again and the honorable rank and file agents need to have the cloud of distrust lifted from them, as well. Comey MUST be punished, as must agent Peter Strzok.
While people like Adam Schiff and Barack Obama will undoubtedly skate, nothing would make this writer happier than to see both of these men publicly and thoroughly shamed, to become pariahs, walking with their heads down as they are escorted to the political ash heap of history.
