“Downplaying the virus.” Selective Memory. Selective Outrage.

On Monday (April 20) I watched “PBS Newshour’s” Yamiche Alcindor once again attack/accuse President Trump during his daily Coronavirus press conference. Hurling vitriol at Trump is her raison d’etre.

This time, Alcindor claims to have interviewed “someone” who told her his family became sick after attending a funeral in mid-March, “mainly because you weren’t taking it seriously.”

Alcindor stated: “He said ‘If the President had had a mask on, if he was saying we should stay home then I would have stayed home.’

She continued: “He said his family members were sick because they were listening to you.”

Still more: “Do you feel like…..or are you concerned that downplaying the virus might have gotten some people sick?”

It’s worth noting here that neither Ms. Alcindor – who has yet to wear a mask – nor none of her left wing media colleagues has even once asked this question of China…..nor of Dr. Fauci and the other experts, for that matter.

As an aside, this funeral attendee’s mother didn’t do a very good job of hammering home the “if your friend jumped off a bridge, would you do it” advice and she should give him another lecture on personal responsibility and accountability. But that’s another topic for another blog.

Last week, I posted numerous quotes from “the experts” who themselves were – to use Alcindor’s words – “downplaying the virus” long after President Trump had put his China travel ban in place on January 31st.

In fact, nearly 6 weeks after the China travel ban, Dr. Anthony Fauci allayed travelers’ fears, saying, “….there is no reason that….if you wanted to go on a cruise ship…….go on a cruise ship.” Fauci, who – like Donald Trump – has yet to be seen in a mask, made this comment on March 9th, just before the “mid-March” funeral attended by Yamiche Alcindor’s alleged interviewee. Was Dr. Fauci not “downplaying the virus”? He did so many times, as my recent blog lays out. Yet, Alcindor relates her story in order to blame Donald Trump even as she and the left constantly lecture us to “listen to the experts” and “ignore the lies” of the President. One wonders how well the “funeral family” would have fared had they heeded the “expert,” Dr. Fauci and ignored the “lies” of President Trump.

Democrat leaders like Nancy Pelosi as well as their propaganda arm, the media, have selective memory and continue to blame President Trump and his administration for the pandemic while conveniently ignoring their own negligent reportage, despite it being permanently recorded in print, online and on videotape. The following is just a sampling of the very “downplaying the virus” of which Ms. Alcindor speaks, most of it coming from her own industry.

January 9, The New York Times Tweet: “There’s no evidence that the virus, a coronavirus, is readily spread by humans, and it has not been tied to any deaths. But health officials in China and internationally are watching it carefully.”

January 23, NBC News: The World Health Organization says it’s ‘Too early’ to declare Coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency.

January 24, Washington Post: “Why we should skeptical of the Chinese Coronavirus quarantine?”

January 25, 2020, ABC’s “Good Morning “America”Dr. Jennifer Ashton: “We are learning as we go…..People should be more concerned right now with the flu in this country.”

January 25, NBC Nightly NewsNBC News Medical Correspondent, Dr. John Torres: “….the reality is, comparing it to the flu, for example, it’s not even close to being at that stage.

January 27, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”: The show’s medical expert said that Americans “should sorry about the Flu, not Coronavirus.”

January 31, The Washington Post: “How our brains make Coronavirus seem scarier than it is.”

February 1, USA TODAY: “Coronavirus is scary, but the flu is deadlier, more widespread.”

February 1, The Washington Post: “Get a grip, America. The flu is a much bigger threat than Coronavirus, for now.”

February 2, The Washington Post: “Past epidemics prove fighting coronavirus with travel bans is a mistake.”

February 5, The New York Times: “Who Says It’s Not Safe to Travel to China?”

February 8, CBS “This Morning Saturday”DR. DAVID AGUS: “Coronavirus is not going to cause a major issue in the United States.”

February 15, “CNN Newsroom” – Dr. Jennifer Caudle: “The risk in the country is still low…….That’s one of the reasons why the CDC does not recommend wearing masks, for example….The risk is low. The risk, however, for the flu is through the roof.”

February 26, NBC News: According to the World Health Organization Chief (Tedros Adhanom) ‘The president is right’ to compare Coronavirus prevention to flu.

March 4, CNN “Anderson Cooper 360”: Cooper told viewers to “be more concerned about the flu than Coronavirus.”

You get the idea…….

According to a February 28th MRC Newsbusters study, analysts identified 44 guest interviews on CNN between 6:00 am and midnight (EST) on February 27. Of the 136 questions that hosts asked the invited guests (even medical experts) about Coronavirus, 82 of them (60%) were to criticize the Trump administration’s handling of the crisis. Guests were even pressured to criticize Mr. Trump. MRC posted the following headline.

STUDY: Trump-Bashing Takes up Majority of CNN’s Coronavirus Coverage

If there were ever a Bizzarro World press conference during which Yamiche Alcindor and her colleagues took the podium, I would ask each of them the very same question Alcindor asked the president on Monday:

“Do you feel like…..or are you concerned that downplaying the virus might have gotten some people sick?”
