On Tuesday, April 14th, Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to Democrat lawmakers urging the public to ignore President Trump’s claims about the virus and to instead listen to scientists.
The letter read, in part:
“We will overcome this moment, but success requires one fundamental from which all actions will follow: we need the truth. The truth is, from this moment on, Americans must ignore lies and start to listen to scientists and other respected professionals in order to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
We know that a number of media types like PMSNBC’s Rachel Maddow have said that the networks shouldn’t air President Trump’s daily Coronoavirus Task Force Press Conferences because of the “lies and misinformation.”
The so-called “experts,” the responsible people, the scientists to whom Pelosi refers are people like Dr. Deborah Birx and the man who has become the face of this pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease expert.
Following is a timeline of comments Dr. Fauci has made to various outlets since any of us first heard of the Coronavirus. As you read them, bear in mind that the first case of Coronavirus in the U.S. was on January 21st. Ten days later, on January 31st, President Trump went with his own gut and instituted his China travel ban. Joe Biden and the leftist mainstream media, among others, called him a “racist” and a “xenophobe” for the doing so. Now, two and a half month’s later, we see that the ban had a significant effect on containing the virus and people like Joe Biden are now signing on and agreeing with Trump’s call. It’s analogous to Barack Obama endorsing Joe Biden, now that he is the last man standing and the presumptive Democrat Presidential Nominee.
Dr. Fauci’s public statements:
CNN.com, January 20th, the day before the first Covid-19 case in the US: “While it’s clear this new virus can be spread from person to person, it’s unclear how easily that spread can happen.” When asked if it’s a continual spread and is it sustained, Fauci replied “We’re not quite sure yet.”
Jan 21st, Newsmax TV, the day of the first reported case: “This is not a major threat to the people of the United States and this is not something that the citizens of the United States should be worried about.”
Jan 23, USA Today: “We don’t want the American public to be worried about this because their risk is low.” He then compared Covid-19 with SARS, a strain of Coronavirus that killed more than 600 people across mainland China and Hong Kong along with more than 100 other people around the world in 2002-2003. Fauci continued: “SARS essentially disappeared because of very good public health practices. The question of developing a (Covid-19) vaccine is not a major issue.”
January 26, “The Cats Roundtable” on 970 AM-N.Y.: “The American people should not be worried or frightened by this. It’s a very, very low risk to the United States. It isn’t something the American public needs to worry about or be frightened about, because we have ways of preparing and screening of people coming in [from China].”
January 31st, Coronavirus Task Force Briefing, the day President Trump instituted the China travel ban: “We still have a low risk to the American public, but we want to keep it at a low risk.”
February 17, USA Today: Dr. Fauci called the risk of Coronavirus in the USA “miniscule” and said to skip the mask but wash your hands.
March 9, Forbes: Dr. Fauci said that “generally healthy Americans” can go on a cruise.
April 3, RealClear Politics: Asked whether the U.S. might consider shutdowns in American cities like those China was enacting at the time, Dr. Fauci replied: “There’s no chance in the world that we could do that to Chicago or to New York or to San Francisco”
You get the picture. Dr. Fauci is the country’s decades-long leading infectious diseases expert, one of the “scientists and other respected professionals” to whom Nancy Pelosi admonishes we listen, to the exclusion of the “liar” President Trump. That would be the same President Trump, a lay person, who instituted the China travel ban, saving perhaps hundreds of thousands or millions of lives, even as the “expert” Dr. Fauci was still telling us we had nothing to worry about. Had the President listened to Dr. Fauci back in January, where would we be right now?
During a radio interview on March 27, Dr. Robert Redfield, Director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), discussed the (then) newly-unearthed audio of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s “The Cats Roundtable” January 26th radio interview, referenced in the timeline. Director Redfield concurred with Dr. Fauci’s, assessment and said that during that time in January the information coming out of China suggested “they were pretty certain that this was not transmitted human to human.”
Director Redfield continued: “Obviously that became corrected as they saw in the first three, four weeks in January that human to human spread was not only occurring it’s actually, as I said, more infectious and I think that led to the situation that we’re in today. I think no one could have predicted how transmissible, how infectious this virus really is.”
Dr. Redfield, a “scientist,” a “respected professional,” said that NO ONE COULD HAVE PREDICTED THIS, including Dr. Anthony Fauci and including President Trump.
Why, then, do you think Nancy Pelosi doesn’t listen to Dr. Redfield as she does to Dr. Fauci? Instead, she still insists that President Trump is lying and spreading misinformation while she makes the claim that his “early denials were deadly”. Yet, she says nothing of Dr. Fauci’s “early denials.”
Speaking of “early denials,” on February 24th, Nancy Pelosi paid a visit to Chinatown in San Francisco…..part of her congressional district. While the TV news cameras were rolling, Mrs. Pelosi said, “Come to Chinatown. Here we are. We’re careful….safe….and come join us.” How “deadly” was Nancy Pelosi’s “early denial”? How many listened to her and got very ill or lost their lives as a result? Americans would have been well-advised to ignore Pelosi’s lies and to “start to listen to scientists and other respected professionals,” no?
Meanwhile, the New York Times came out with the headline: “He Could Have Seen What Was Coming. Behind Trump’s Failure on the Virus.” Apparently, the “Old Gray Lady” also tuned out CDC Director Dr. Redfield’s assessment that NO ONE could have “seen this coming”.
Just how seriously are we to take Rachel Maddow, Nancy Pelosi and the others who want networks to stop carrying President Trump’s daily Coronavirus Press Conferences because of the “lies” and “misinformation” and who instead, want us “to listen to scientists and other respected professionals”? Let’s explore that.
Some networks, like CNN and MSNBC, cut away from the press conferences once President Trump leaves the podium leaving behind Vice President Pence as well as Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, the very experts whose advice we are told we MUST heed. Once Trump leaves the room, Drs. Fauci, Birx and often Surgeon General Adams have the floor and disseminate a lot of useful information, including detailed data and analyses about Covid-19 including specifics on trajectories of the spread. So, why would some networks cut away?
For the answer to that question, we rely on “Occam’s Razor,” in this case, from the New York Times. “Since reviving the daily White House briefing — a practice abandoned last year by an administration that bristles at outside scrutiny — Mr. Trump and his Coronavirus updates have attracted an average audience of 8.5 million on cable news, roughly the viewership of the season finale of “The Bachelor.” And the numbers are continuing to rise, driven by intense concern about the virus and the housebound status of millions of Americans who are practicing social distancing. On Monday, (March 23) nearly 12.2 million people watched Mr. Trump’s briefing on CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, according to Nielsen — “Monday Night Football” numbers. Millions more are watching on ABC, CBS, NBC and online streaming sites.”
In other words, Donald Trump gets the ratings, not Pence, not, Birx, not Adams, not Fauci. So, it’s all about the $$$$$ and networks like CNN and MSNBC are really not interested in getting or sharing the info with their viewers at all. By ignoring and by not airing the “experts” themselves, these networks get to control the narrative, control what their viewers see and hear, particularly any information that might paint President Trump in a positive light and prove that he is actually doing yeoman’s work and getting the job done.
Certainly CNN, MSNBC and for that matter, ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS would not want their viewers to be witnesses to Dr. Fauci affirming that President Trump does, in fact, listen to and take the advice of the experts, just as the Pelosis and Maddows insist he do. To wit:
“The first and only time that Dr. Birx and I went in and formally made a recommendation to the President to actually have a shutdown in the sense of – not really shut down – but to really have strong, mitigation, we discussed it. Obviously, there would be concern by some that, in fact, might have some negative consequences. Nonetheless, the President listened to the recommendation and went to the mitigation.”
President Trump faced a Herculean task in January and rose to the challenge like few ever could or have, certainly in our lifetimes. Essentially everyone who needs a ventilator or a hospital bed has one. A number of temporary hospitals built by the Army Corps of Engineers never saw a patient and have now been dismantled. Many ventilators were not needed and went unused.
While the President was being accused of sending more help to states he needs to win in order to keep the White House, he was actually sending a disproportionate amount of help to New York and California, two states he has NO chance of winning. That additional help came in the form of hospital ships and additional personnel, among other things.
Instead of questioning President Trump’s motives, the questions that SHOULD be asked are why New York State needed the extra federal aid in the first place, given that it has a GDP that would be the envy of most countries? Why – as Governor Andrew Cuomo admitted yesterday – is New York “broke”?
Why did California, which has the 5th largest economy in the world, need the extra federal aid? “Occam’s Razor” would indicate that the answers to those questions is simply because both New York and California have been run by Democrats for decades. But perhaps I’m just being cynical.
Finally, why did the Biden/Obama Administration leave us so ill-prepared? That would be the same Joe Biden who, in his latest campaign ad, tells us, “When I’m president, we’ll be well-prepared to respond better.” He’s been in Washington for FIFTY years and had plenty of time and power to do it, particularly during the eight years he was a single heartbeat away from the presidency. Likewise, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, third-in-line to the presidency. She’s been in Washington for more than 30 years. What has she done to prepare us?
Americans are living through unprecedented times. We are all getting a taste of socialism. The government is paying us not to work. In many cases, they are paying people more to NOT work than they were earning while they were working. The government is telling us we can’t leave our homes. They’re telling us what to wear if we do have to go out and then they tell us the only places we’re permitted to go. The government tells us which workers and businesses are essential and which are not. They tell us that liquor stores are essential while churches are not and those who attend Sunday services – even while remaining in their cars in parking lots – may experience the criminal justice system, firsthand. And no experiment in socialism would be complete without empty store shelves and a media who decides what information is provided to the People and which is withheld.
It’s “Occam’s Razor” time again. All of this is being done simply to prevent a duly-elected president from winning reelection, to disenfranchise 63 million Americans and to nullify their votes, not to mention the votes of an ever-growing Trump supporter base…..for a president who now sees his approval numbers eclipsing Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s at this point in his presidency, despite 93 percent negative press 24/7 since he first descended from that escalator in Trump Tower to announce for president.
The hatred of Nancy Pelosi for this President knows no bounds. In front of the whole nation, she tore up his State of the Union Address, including the page that specifically addresses the Coronavirus and Donald Trump’s promise to do what was necessary to protect the American People……..which he has. And while he has, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and the same cast of characters are holding another Sword of Damacles over his head, in the form of investigations and yet another impeachment over his handling of the pandemic.
Now comes a letter from Pelosi urging Americans to ignore President Trump’s “lies” and instead listen to the experts like Dr. Fauci, who, by any serious person’s assessment, got it very wrong, his “early denials” quite possibly being very “deadly,” save President Trump’s China travel ban.
To borrow President Teddy Roosevelt’s quote, Donald Trump is “The Man in the Arena.” He’s the one getting beaten up and bloodied. He’s the one with the sleepless nights, the constant burden on his shoulders, the constant pressure, the constant heinous accusations and attacks. Through it all, he is getting the job done……and done quite well, especially given the rotten hand he was dealt.
Meanwhile, those like Maddow, Pelosi, Schiff, Schumer etc, – who haven’t a care in the world nor any skin in the game – simply won’t let up.
Everyone is an expert. Everyone is a critic.
